Reliance Jio Races Ahead of Airtel In The Number Of Wireless Broadband Subscribers: TRAI
The market leader in Telecom when it comes to wireless broadband connectivity was Airtel, until a few months ago. Reliance Jio overtook the market in November 2016, having the highest number of Wireless Broadband customers in November 2016.

As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India (TRAI) reports, Bharti Airtel had 41.90 million subscribers while the Reliance Jio had 52.23 Million subscribers. Just a month before, In October 2016, Airtel had 46.22 Million subscribers to its wireless Broadband service connection.
By the end of November 2016, The share value of Reliance was at the peak. The Reliance Jio had 23.9% followed closely by Bharti Airtel at 20.1% and Vodafone by 15.9%
How Did Reliance Jio Capture The Market?
On September 5th, 2016 Jio was open to the public with its preview offer that offered unlimited data, free voice calls and text messages across all networks in India.
The offer was valid until December 31st, 2016. The Jio Happy new Year offer was the next step but by then, Jio had captured the market among other Telecom providers in India.
When it comes to wired broadband connection, BSNL had the highest market share. It had over 9.95 Million subscribers in November 2016. The number of broadband subscribers has been seeing a steep decline since October 2016.
The number was 218.42 Million at the end of October 2016 and it declined to 218.26 Million at the end of November 2016. It is a 0.07% decline in just a month.
More than 16 Million users started using Jio services in November 2016, which is far more than any other telecom operator in the world.
The giant Bharti Airtel had only one million new subscriptions in the same period. Recently, Mukesh Ambani had announced that Reliance Jio customer base has reached the 100 Million mark that the company had set in 170 days.
Reliance Jio Is The New Leader In The Broadband Market
In the month of November 2016, according to the report, Vodafone India had added 0.9 Million users while Idea Cellular gained 2.5 million users.
Bharti Airtel is the leading player in Telecom In India. It has a market share of 23.95% against 24.32% according to the user base.

Vodafone has 18.44%, followed by Idea cellular and BSNL at 17.07 and 8.71% respectively. Reliance Jio’s market share was just 4.72% at the end of November 2016.
The TRAI report also points out that the subscribers of Tata Tele services and Reliance Communications have been lost. 1.1 Million subscribers have been lost from Tata Tele services while 156,187 subscribers have left Reliance Communications.
The total wireless subscriber base has also increased in this period. It has increased from 1,078.42 million at the end of October 2016 to 1,099.51 million by November 2016, registering a 1.96% growth rate.
In the urban regions, the wireless subscription has increased from 621.77 million to 638.46 million from the same period. The growth rate is about 2.68%.
In the rural zones, there has been a slight growth rate of 0.96% by increasing from 456.66 million to 461.05 million subscribers.
While Delhi recorded the highest teledensity (236.38), Bihar reported the lowest Teledensity (56.91) In Northern and Western India, the highest number of mobile number portability has been requested from Rajasthan. Gujarat comes second.

In Southern and Eastern India, the highest number comes from Karnataka. Andhra Pradesh comes second.
The number of wired subscribers has declined in this period between October 2016 to November 2016. The numbers have changed from 24.52 million to 24.44 Million.
BSNL and MTNL hold the maximum market shares for the PSU access providers. They held 70.66% of the market. Bharti Airtel saw an increase in the number of subscriptions while the BSNL lost 86,964 subscribers.

The wired subscribers have declined at the rate of 0.3% with a base of 0.07 million. The total Urban wired subscribers were 84.14% while the total rural wired subscribers were 15.86%.
On the whole, the telephone subscribers across India has increased from 1,102.94 Million to 1123.96 million at the end of November 2016. It has a monthly growth rate of 1.91%
